In order to alert and develop existing and aspiring entrepreneurs on the need to direct more focus towards diversification of Nigerian export trade, the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) has organized a 3 day free seminar for small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SME) within the FCT.

The Managing Director/CEO of AEA, Arabi Muhammad Tukur, during the opening ceremony, stated that the Seminar was organized by AEA in partnership with Nigerian Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), FCT-Nigerian Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System For Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), First Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).


He said the seminar was aimed at providing existing and aspiring exporters with information on viable and exportable non-oil commodities to promote the development and diversification of Nigerian export trade.


The Managing Director who was represented by the Principal Manager of the Agency, Mr. Chudi Ezerigwe said the objective of the training was to equip aspiring exporters with knowledge on viable and exportable non-oil commodity products.


"The training will provide exporters with information on technical support with regards to paper documentation of export transaction, business registration, standards and available export incentive schemes". He also encouraged the participants to adhere to rules and regulations guiding export trade and make use of the lessons learnt during the seminar.


The Export Seminar which took place at the Auditorium of AEA Entrepreneurial Complex between the 26th and 28th of March had Paper Presentation, Training Sessions, Interactive session with government business regulators with regards to export, Business networking, Mentoring Sessions with experts and Business Development Service Providers (BDSPs), as well as Business Advisory Service session.


The CEO of AML Global trade, Aliyu Lawal, while addressing the 89 participants in his paper presentation on "An overview of Nigeria's Non-oil export Sector – Potentials and Challenges" advised the participants to always look out for markets that are looking for their products rather than just exporting to anywhere around the world.


Mrs. Titilope Ojo, Exporter Voices Lead, Trade policy Work stream PDF II Program (UK AID) during her keynote address said when SMEs are starting out in export trade, they need to get information and knowledge about the export market intended to play in and study It obsessively, they should understand what the destination country wants and their standards/requirements which have to be met. She stated that the SMEs need collaboration and alliance in export business, as teamwork makes most export business to thrive.


One of the participants at the seminar, Mr. Aminu Usman, expressed his gratitude to AEA for organizing such an extensive and educative seminar. He further stated that with the knowledge he gained from the seminar, he can start exporting his products
